Troubleshooting Rider Troubleshooting Continued. Problem Engine runs, but rider will not drive. Cause 1. Transmission release lever(s) in "open" position. 2. Belt is broken. 3. Drive belt slips. 4. Brake is not fully released. Rider drive belt slips. 1. Pulleys or belt greasy or oily. 2. Tension too loose. Brake will not hold. Rider steers or handles poorly. 3. Belt stretched or worn. 1. Brake is incorrectly adjusted. 2. Brake pads worn. 1. Steering linkage is loose. 2. Improper tire inflation. Remedy 1. Move the transmission release lever(s) to the "closed" position. 2.
