Selecting a Sound Field You can enjoy surround sound simply by selecting one of the pre-programmed sound fields according to the programme you want to listen to. Surround sound can be applied to DVD, VIDEO CD, and CD playback. 1 23 4 56 7 89 >10 10/0 SOUND FIELD DISPLAY Press SOUND FIELD repeatedly until the sound field you want appears on the front panel display. You can also use SOUND FIELD on the system to select the pre-programmed sound fields. To check the current sound field Press DISPLAY repeatedly. Each time you press DISPLAY, the front panel display switches as follows: remaining or playing time t sound field t remaining or playing time z The system memorises the last sound field selected for each function mode (Sound Field Link) Whenever you select a function such as DVD or TUNER, the sound field that was last applied to the function is automatically applied again. For example, if you listen to DVD with HALL as the sound field, then change to another function, and then return to DVD, HALL will be applied again. With the tuner, sound fields are memorised separately for all preset stations. z You can identify the encoding format of programme software by looking at its packaging - Dolby Digital discs are labelled with the logo. - Dolby Surround encoded programmes are labelled with the logo. - DTS Digital Surround discs are marked with DTS. Note When you play sound tracks with 96 kHz sampling frequency, the output signals will be converted to 48 kHz (sampling frequency). CINEMA STUDIO EX A* Reproduces the sound characteristics of the Sony Pictures Entertainment's classic editing studio using the 3D sound imaging of V. MULTI DIMENSION (page 50) to create 5 sets of virtual speakers surrounding the listener from a single pair of actual rear speakers. This is a standard mode, great for watching most movies. Sound Adjustments CINEMA STUDIO EX B* Reproduces the sound characteristics of the Sony Pictures Entertainment's mixing studio using the 3D sound imaging of V. MULTI DIMENSION (page 50) to create 5 sets of virtual speakers surrounding the listener from a single pair of actual rear speakers. This mode is ideal for watching sciencefiction or action movies with lots of sound effects. CINEMA STUDIO EX C* Reproduces the sound characteristics of the Sony Pictures Entertainment's BGM recording studio using the 3D sound imaging of V. MULTI DIMENSION (page 50) to create 5 sets of virtual speakers surrounding the listener from a single pair of actual rear speakers. This mode is ideal for watching musicals or classic films where music is featured in the soundtrack. * "VIRTUAL" sound field: Sound field with virtual speakers. continued 49
