What is a HotSync® operation? A HotSync® operation is a one-step operation that allows you to synchronize data between your CLIE handheld and your computer. With just one press on the HotSync button, you can synchronize your CLIE handheld application data with the Palm™ Desktop for CLIE software data on your computer, back up the data of your CLIE handheld on your computer, or install add-on applications. HotSync operation allows you to do the following: 1 Synchronize the Date Book, the Address Book, the To Do List, the Memo Pad, and the Expense data on your CLIE handheld and your computer. The Palm Desktop for CLIE software can manage the data of multiple CLIE handhelds independently. 2 Back up the data stored on your CLIE handheld onto your computer. Synchronization ensures that your data is always safe and up-to-date. In case you need to perform a hard reset, a HotSync operation allows you to restore the data. 3 Import the data on your computer or install add-on applications onto your CLIE handheld. Note You cannot perform an IR HotSync operation with a computer running the Windows® 2000 Professional operating system. Chapter3 Exchanging and updating data using a HotSync® operation 113
