Scheduling Programs (TIMER & REC) Recording Programs The following information reviews the highlights of recording with your Digital Satellite Receiver. You can schedule and record programs with your Digital Satellite Receiver if you have connected a VCR (see "Connecting Your VCR" on page 12 and "Setting Up the VCR Control Feature" on page 30). One Button Timer & Rec The One Button Timer & Rec feature allows you to schedule the recording of a future satellite program by selecting that program from any of the program guides (see "Using One Button Timer & Rec" on page 76). Timer & Rec The Timer & Rec feature allows you to schedule the recording of any future program from the Main Menu by selecting the date, time, and channel that you want to record (see "Using the Timer & Rec Feature" on page 77). Auto Title Insert You can set up your Digital Satellite Receiver to send information to your VCR so that program information appears at the beginning of your recordings. This way you can have a convenient "title" recorded on your tapes (see "Setting Up Auto Title Insert" on page 32). Data Download with a Sony SmartFile™ VCR Your Digital Satellite Receiver has a Program Data Download feature that will automatically send the following information when you record a program with a Sony SmartFile VCR: program title, program category, program time/date and duration. For more information on the SmartFile function, see your Sony SmartFile VCR Operating Instructions. Programs not available for recording Due to copyright restrictions, some programs may not be available to record or may only be available to record in standard definition. You may need to set the OUTPUT SELECT to "Video 1/2, VHF/UHF 480i" (see page 11). Notes • When using the VCR Control feature to record a future program, make sure that your VCR is turned off before the program begins. The VCR Control feature will turn on your VCR and start recording. • When you schedule two or more continuous events to be recorded, the Auto Title Insert and Program Data Download features will only send information about the first program. 75 Using the On-Screen Displays

Recording Programs
The following information reviews the highlights of recording with your
Digital Satellite Receiver. You can schedule and record programs with
your Digital Satellite Receiver if you have connected a VCR (see

One Button Timer & Rec
The One Button Timer & Rec feature allows you to schedule the
recording of a future satellite program by selecting that program from
any of the program guides (see

76).
Timer & Rec
The Timer & Rec feature allows you to schedule the recording of any
future program from the Main Menu by selecting the date, time, and
channel that you want to record (see

page 77).
Auto Title Insert
You can set up your Digital Satellite Receiver to send information to your
VCR so that program information appears at the beginning of your
recordings. This way you can have a convenient
title
recorded on your
tapes (see
Setting Up Auto Title Insert
on page 32).
Data Download with a Sony SmartFile™ VCR
Your Digital Satellite Receiver has a Program Data Download feature
that will automatically send the following information when you record
a program with a Sony SmartFile VCR: program title, program category,
program time/date and duration.

Programs not available for recording
Due to copyright restrictions, some programs may not be available to
record or may only be available to record in standard definition. You

Video 1/2, VHF/UHF 480i
