Screening incoming calls You can screen calls by leaving the answering function on (see page 62) while you are at home. When a call is answered, you can hear the message being recorded through the base phone or cordless handset but the caller cannot hear you. Then, you can decide whether to answer the call or not. This function is available both the base phone and the cordless handset. However, the following procedures are required in order to screen incoming calls on the cordless handset. (OFF) (TALK) To screen incoming calls on the cordless handset Press (HOLD/PLAY BACK) while "ANSWERING" is displayed. "CALL SCREENING" appears on the display of the cordless handset. To answer the call Pick up the handset from the base phone or press (SPEAKERPHONE) on the base phone, or press (TALK) on the cordless handset. Recording is stopped and you can speak to the caller. (SPEAKERPHONE) Notes • If you press (HOLD/PLAY BACK) while the greeting is running, "PLEASE WAIT..." will appear on the display, then once the message recording commences it will change to call screening status. • If the answering volume is set to minimum, you cannot screen the calls on the base phone. Tips • You can conclude call screening by pressing (OFF) on the cordless handset. • You can also answer the call by picking up the handset on another phone if it is connected to the same line. 66US Answering Machine Features
