Operator Safety WARNING Indicates a hazardous situation which, if not avoided, could result in death or serious injury. NOTICE Indicates information considered important but not hazard-related. 3.2 Safety Symbols on the Mower Read the safety decals before operating your mower. The warnings have been developed for your safety. Understand and follow all safety decals to reduce the risk of a personal injury or property damage. WARNING If any safety decals become worn or damaged and cannot be read, order replacement decals from your local authorized STIHL servicing dealer. 3.2.1 Main Safety Label WARNING ■■ Risk of Serious Injury or Death:Read operator's manual. Trained operators only - do not operate this machine unless you are trained. Operators must be familiar with all safety devices and controls. Beware of thrown objects. Remove all objects from yard that could be thrown by mowing blades. Wear eye protection and hearing protection. Keep guards, shields and safety devices in place and working. Do not open or remove safety shields while cutting blades are running. Never place hands or feet under the mowing deck. Before leaving machine: shut off, set parking brake and remove key. WARNING English ■■ Risk to Children and Bystanders: Cutting blades can amputate limbs. To reduce the risk of injury, stop mower when children or other bystanders are nearby. Never carry passengers, especially children, even with blades off. Passengers may fall off mower or return for a ride when least expected. Do not mow in reverse. Look down, behind and to the side before and while backing. Use care when changing directions. ■■ Risk of Operation Near Water, Retaining Walls and Drop Offs: Serious injury or death, including drowning, may result if mower wheels drop over retaining walls or drop offs. To reduce this risk: Never operate the mower down slopes toward water or drop offs. Never operate near drop offs or water - reduce speed and leave at least two mower widths between your mower and such hazards. ■■ Battery and Electrical Risks: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not expose mower to water or excessive moisture. Store mower indoors. To reduce the risk of fire, explosion and burns, including chemical burns, do not disassemble, crush, or heat the battery over +131° F (+55° C). Do not expose battery to fire or incinerate. For use only with STIHL ALB Series charger. ■■ Risk of Fire: Dried yard debris is combustible. Inspect unit and keep clear of dried leaves and grass. Blade contact with rocks may create sparks that can start fires. Contact local fire officials for fire protection requirements. WARNING ■■ Risk of Roll Over: Operation on slopes can be hazardous. To reduce the risk of loss of control and roll-over: Reduce speed on slopes and use extreme caution during operation. Do not operate on slopes over 15 degrees. Avoid turning down slopes. Avoid sudden turns on slopes. If mower stops when going up a slope, stop mowing blades and back down slowly off the slope. Never operate on slopes when grass is wet or soil is soft from recent rain.
