V. Starting Your Engine WARNING An adult should start the engine. Only allow children to start engine if an adult has determined they are experienced and capable of such operation. WARNING If you are unable to start this engine after following instructions in this manual, contact your Authorized Tecumseh Servicing Dealer. To avoid serious burn injuries or damage to your engine, DO NOT attempt to start or troubleshoot this engine in any other way. For example: • DO NOT use starting fluid. • DO NOT spray flammable vapors into carburetor or onto air cleaner. • DO NOT put flammable liquids into carburetor or onto air cleaner. • DO NOT operate engine or pull on starter rope with spark plug removed. Fuel can spray from spark plug hole and ignite. NOTE If engine is remotely controlled, (see equipment manufacturer's instructions) your equipment may have one or more of the following engine symbols. See Figure 10. 1. To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, make sure engine is outdoors in a well-ventilated area. 2. Move toggle switch to "ON" position. See Figure 11. 3. Move choke control lever to "FULL CHOKE" position (see equipment manufacturer's instructions). See Figure 11. NOTES If restarting a warm engine after a short shutdown, move choke lever to "NO CHOKE" position and continue reading the text below. See Figure 14. WARNING DO NOT start engine without pushing in yellow compression relief valve FIRST. Doing so may result in bruised fingers and accidental equipment movement which could result in minor or moderate injury. 4. Push yellow compression relief valve in. See Figure 12.
