Connecting your TV Connecting a cable converter box This connection allows you to watch basic and premium cable channels. Tune the TV to channel 3 or 4 (whichever channel is vacant in your area), and use the converter box to change channels. You will need: • two coaxial cables (one or more may be supplied by cable company) TV From Cable ANT (75Ω) OUT VIDEO L/MONO ANT-1 DVD IN COLOR STREAM INPUT Y L Pb IN S-VIDEO VIDEO L/MONO IN OUT Cable Converter Box AUDIO R AUDIO Pr R AUDIO R VIDEO 2 VIDEO 1 Note: When you use a converter box with your TV, the remote control may not operate certain features, such as PIP swap, channel y z, channel block, favorite channels, or channel labels. Connecting a cable converter box and VCR This connection allows you to watch and record basic and premium cable channels, as well as watch videotapes. Set the TV signal source to VIDEO 1 (page 17). Tune the VCR to channel 3 or 4 (the same channel as the converter box output switch), and use the cable converter box to change channels. Set the PIP source to "TV" (see page 28). You will need: • three coaxial cables (one or more may be supplied by cable company) • one pair of audio cables (one single audio cable for a mono VCR) • one video cable (see "Note Regarding Picture Quality" on page 7) TV ANT (75Ω) Stereo VCR OUT VIDEO L/MONO AUDIO R ANT-1 DVD IN COLOR STREAM INPUT Y L Pb AUDIO Pr R IN S-VIDEO VIDEO L/MONO AUDIO R VIDEO 2 VIDEO 1 VIDEO AUDIO L R IN IN from ANT OUT to TV OUT CH 3 CH 4 From Cable IN Cable OUT Converter Box Note: To prevent the TV's volume setting from affecting the recorded sound level, set AUDIO OUT to FIXED during recording (see "Selecting variable audio out" on page 35). When you use a converter box with your TV, the remote control may not operate certain features, such as PIP swap, channel y z, channel block, favorite channels, or channel labels.* If you have a mono VCR, connect L/Mono to VCR Audio OUT using only one audio cable. If you have an S-VHS VCR, use an S-video cable instead of a standard video cable. Do not connect a standard video cable and an S-video cable to VIDEO 1 (or VIDEO 2) at the same time, or the picture performance will be unacceptable. The unauthorized recording, use, distribution, or revision of television programs, videotapes, DVDs, and other materials is prohibited under the Copyright Laws of the United States and other countries, and may subject you to civil and criminal liability. *Another connection option is shown below (all coaxial cable). To watch premium channels, set the A/B switch to A, and change channels using the cable converter box remote control. To watch basic channels and use all of the TV's features (including PIP), set the A/B switch to B, and use the TV remote control.
