Notes for Users in Australia and New Zealand Modem warning notice for Australia Modems connected to the Australian telecoms network must have a valid Austel permit. This modem has been specifically configured to ensure compliance with Austel standards when the country/region selection is set to Australia. The use of other country/region setting while the modem is attached to the Australian PSTN would result in your modem being operated in a noncompliant manner. To verify that the country/region is correctly set, enter the command ATI which displays the currently active setting. To set the country/region permanently to Australia, enter the following command sequence: ■ AT%TE=1 ■ ATS133=1 ■ AT&F ■ AT&W ■ AT%TE=0 ■ ATZ Failure to set the modem to the Australia country/region setting as shown above will result in the modem being operated in a non-compliant manner. Consequently, there would be no permit in force for this equipment and the Telecoms Act 1991 prescribes a penalty of $12,000 for the connection of non-permitted equipment.
