Basic Operation ■ Using Pedals The P-250 features four pedal jacks. Different pedals can be used for various purposes, as described below. See page 23 for information on connecting the pedals. NOTE This section explains how to use the pedals based on the default settings after the power is turned on. Since you can assign various functions to the pedal jacks, the resultant effect may differ, depending on the default settings. For more information, refer to [Pedal 1]/[Pedal 2]/[Pedal 3]/ [Pedal 4] (page 69) in the Voice Edit section. Applying the sustain effect Connect the included foot pedal FC3 to the PEDAL [1 (SUSTAIN)] jack to sustain the current sound. When you press and hold down the pedal, the effect is applied and all notes being played will sustain, even after you release the keys. When you press the pedal here, the sound of notes you are playing, as well as subsequent notes will sustain. If you press the pedal while you are playing the "GrandPiano 1" voice, the soundboard and string resonance effects (sustain sampling) are applied. TIP Use the "SustainSamplingDepth" parameter in the "OTHER SETTING" menu to adjust the depth of the resonance effect for the damper pedal (page 78). Applying the sostenuto effect Connect the included foot pedal FC3 to the PEDAL [2(SOSTENUTO)] jack to add a sostenuto effect to the current sound. When you press the pedal, the effect will be applied to only the notes you are playing at that time, and the effect can remain longer even after you release the keys. The effect will not be applied to notes you play after you press the pedal. Basic Operation Applying the soft effect Connect the included foot pedal FC3 to the PEDAL [3 (SOFT)] jack to add a soft effect to the current sound. When you press and hold down the pedal, all the notes you play after you press the pedal will sound softer. (Note that the effect is not applied to the notes you were playing when the pedal was pressed. Press the pedal just before you start playing the notes to which you wish to apply the effect.) Applying the expression effect Connect an optional FC7 foot controller to the PEDAL [4(AUX)] jack to add an expression effect to the current sound. The faster you press the foot controller, the greater the effect applied. TIP Use the "PedalStart/Stop" parameter in the "OTHER SETTING" menu to assign the Start/Stop function (same as the [START/STOP] button on the panel) to the pedal connected to the PEDAL [2 (SOSTENUTO)], [3 (SOFT)], or [4 (AUX)] jack (page 78). TIP You can reverse the effects of the pedals (such as on/off status and intensity) using the "PedalType" parameter (page 78) in the "OTHER SETTING" menu. ■ Using Panel Lock The Panel Lock function temporarily disables the operation of the P-250 panel (locks the panel controls) so that you will not inadvertently change the voice or mode during performance. Press the [PANEL LOCK] button twice quickly to turn the panel lock on or off. When the panel is locked, [PANEL LOCK] appears on the display. [PANEL LOCK] When you press the pedal here, the sound of notes you are playing at the moment will sustain.
