About MIDI MIDI Capabilities MIDI functions enable you to transmit performance data between MIDI devices Transmitting performance data to and from another MIDI device MIDI [OUT] terminal MIDI cables (optional) MIDI [IN] terminal MIDI [OUT] terminal MIDI [IN] terminal Instrument MIDI device NOTE • You cannot transmit the voice demo songs and the piano preset songs from the instrument to another MIDI device. • For MIDI connections, use a standard MIDI cable (optional), available at most musical instrument stores. To do this, you need to install the USB-MIDI driver to the computer. For more information, refer to the manual that came with the USBMIDI interface device. NOTICE • When connecting the instrument to a computer, first turn off the power to the instrument, and then exit any open applications on the computer before connecting any cables. After making all connections, turn on the power to the instrument. NOTE • When the instrument is used as a tone module, performance data with Voices that are not found on the instrument will not be played correctly. • You must install an appropriate software application on the computer to be able to transmit performance data between the instrument and a computer. MIDI Settings Setting the MIDI Transmit Channels In any MIDI control setup, the MIDI channels of the transmitting and receiving devices must be matched for proper data transfer. You can specify the channel on which this instrument transmits MIDI data. To do this, while holding down [GRAND PIANO/FUNCTION], press one of the D6 - E6 keys. The D6 key decreases the value by 1, the D#6 key increases the value by 1, and the E6 key restores the default value (channel 1). D#6 (+1) D6 (-1) E6 (Default) NOTE • The setting range is from 1 - 16. • The default value is 1. NOTE • In Dual, the keyboard performance via Voice 1 is transmitted on the specified MIDI Transmit Channel and the keyboard performance via Voice 2 is transmitted on the next channel number in sequence (specified channel + 1). NOTE • No MIDI messages are output during playback of the Demo Song or Preset Song. MIDI functions enable you to transmit performance

Transmitting performance data to and from a
computer
You can connect the MIDI terminals of this instru-
ment to the USB terminal on the computer via an
optional USB-MIDI interface device (such as the
Yamaha UX16). To do this, you need to install the
USB-MIDI driver to the computer. For more informa-
tion, refer to the manual that came with the USB-
MIDI interface device.
Setting the MIDI Transmit Channels
