Refer to Lubricant Specifications in this chapter. DOT 3 fluid is recommended. However, if DOT 3 is not available, DOT 4 fluid can be used. Ensure the correct automatic transmission fluid is used. MERCON and MERCON V are not interchangeable. DO NOT MIX MERCON and MERCON V. Refer to the scheduled maintenance information to determine the correct service interval. 2 3 Indicates only approximate dry-fill capacity. Some applications may vary based on cooler size and if equipped with an in-tank cooler. The amount of transmission fluid and fluid level should be set by the indication on the dipstick's normal operating range. 4 5 Add the coolant type originally equipped in your vehicle. Rear axles are considered lubricated for life when the vehicle is used for normal service. See your scheduled maintenance information for Severe Duty requirements. Use of synthetic or synthetic blend motor oil is not mandatory. Engine oil need only meet the requirements of Ford specification WSS-M2C930-A and the API Certification mark.
