Chapter 8 Configuring VLANs Using VTP Disabling VTP Version 2 Beginning in privileged EXEC mode, follow these steps to disable VTP version 2: Step 1 Step 2 Step 3 Command vlan database no vtp v2-mode exit Step 4 show vtp status Purpose Enter VLAN configuration mode. Disable VTP version 2. Update the VLAN database, propagate it throughout the administrative domain, and return to privileged EXEC mode. Verify that VTP version 2 is disabled. In the display, check the VTP V2 Mode field. Enabling VTP Pruning Pruning increases available bandwidth by restricting flooded traffic to those trunk links that the traffic must use to access the destination devices. You enable VTP pruning on a switch in VTP server mode. Pruning is supported with VTP version 1 and version 2. If you enable pruning on the VTP server, it is enabled for the entire VTP domain. Only VLANs included in the pruning-eligible list can be pruned. By default, VLANs 2 through 1001 are pruning eligible on Catalyst 2900 XL and Catalyst 3500 XL trunk ports. For information, see the "Changing the Pruning-Eligible List" section on page 8-42. 78-6511-05 Catalyst 2900 Series XL and Catalyst 3500 Series XL Software Configuration Guide 8-25
