Installing an Intel Management Module
(IMM)
The optional Intel Management Module (IMM) provides enhanced levels of server
functionality over the standard baseboard management controller (BMC). Several
additional features become available with the IMM installed, including redundant
hot-swap chassis fans, and the local control panel (LCP).
To install an Intel Management Module (IMM):
1
Uninstall the Gateway Server Manager (GSM) software from your server.
2
Follow the instructions in
“Preventing static electricity discharge” on page 41
.
3
Follow the instructions in
“Opening the server case” on page 42
.
4
Follow the instructions in
“Removing the air ducts” on page 46
.
Important
When the IMM module is initially installed in your server, the server
will not boot correctly. To correct this situation, you must force a BMC
firmware update. A boot block firmware update must also be done.
For more information, see
“Updating the baseboard management
controller firmware” on page 35
.
The FRU/SDR firmware must also be updated at this time.
Important
If Gateway Server Manager (GSM) software is installed, delete the
password (if one has been set) and uninstall the GSM software prior
to installing the IMM module.
