Power up Observe the following guidelines before powering up the storage enclosure: • Always install all components of the storage enclosure. • Install hard drives in the storage enclosure so the connected host controller can identify and configure them at power up. • Always power up the storage enclosure first, and then the server. To power up the storage enclosure: 1. Complete server hardware installation and cabling. See the server documentation. 2. Connect the SAS cables and power cords to the storage enclosure ("Choosing a configuration" on page 20). 3. Press and hold the Power On/Standby button. Wait and observe the system power LED and system fans. When the storage enclosure powers up, the system power LED illuminates solid green and the system fans spin to a high speed, and then spin down to a low speed. 4. Power up the servers. See the server documentation. Power down the server CAUTION: In systems that use external data storage, be sure that the server is the first unit to be powered down and the last to be powered back up. Taking this precaution ensures that the system does not erroneously mark the drives as failed when the server is powered up. IMPORTANT: If installing a hot-plug device, it is not necessary to power down the storage enclosure. 1. Power down any attached servers. See the server documentation. Operations 11

Power up
Observe the following guidelines before powering up the storage enclosure:
