1 Getting started The first step is to determine what type of expansion you will perform, which will determine the applicable quantity of hardware components needed. • Multi-product main rack-If the main rack containing the EVA6400 or EVA8400 currently includes non-EVA components (such as servers or switches), consider the following maximum configurations when determining the number of disk enclosures that will reside in the expansion rack: • The EVA6400 supports a maximum of 18 disk enclosures (main and expansion racks combined). • The EVA8400 supports a maximum of 27 disk enclosures (main and expansion racks combined). NOTE: Because there is no standard for a multi-product rack, there are several possible configurations, in terms of the number of disk enclosures included. This document does not cover all possible configurations; instead it assumes a starting point of a 2C6D main rack and an 0C6D expansion rack and provides general guidelines, which can be adapted for any configuration. • EVA8400 2C18D main rack-The main rack is full with 2 controllers and 18 disk enclosures and the expansion rack will contain up to 9 disk enclosures. NOTE: If you want to add disk enclosures to an EVA6400/8400 in the main rack, see the HP StorageWorks 6400/8400 Enterprise Virtual Array installation guide or the HP Storage EVA6400/8400 M6412A disk enclosure installation instructions for more information. The installation guide contains cabling diagrams for various configurations, up to 2C18D within one rack. The disk enclosure installation instructions show how to add disk enclosures to an existing configuration.
