Hardware Upgrades b. If removing a PCI expansion card, hold the card at each end, and carefully rock it back and forth until the connectors pull free from the socket. Pull the expansion card straight up from the socket 1 then away from the inside of the chassis 2 to release it from the chassis frame. Be sure not to scrape the card against the other components. Removing an Expansion Card ✎ Before removing an installed expansion card, disconnect any cables that may be attached to the expansion card. 5. If not replacing the old expansion card with a new expansion card, install an expansion slot cover to close the open slot. Insert the metal slot cover in the opened slot and slide the slot cover lock down to secure the slot cover in place. Ä CAUTION: After removing an expansion card, you must replace it with a new card or expansion slot cover for proper cooling of internal components during operation.
