7 External Device Connections External devices can be physically connected to the computer. In addition, some computer models can provide connections between infrared equipped devices. Refer to "A Look at the Computer" section in this guide to locate the connectors on your computer. This section provides procedures for connecting external devices to the computer. Connecting an External Keyboard or Pointing Device The keyboard and external pointing devices need software device drivers to operate. The necessary drivers are provided by the manufacturer or may be preinstalled with the operating system. To connect an external keyboard or external PS/2 mouse to the computer, connect the cable to the keyboard/mouse connector on the computer. To connect both an external keyboard and PS/2 external mouse or external trackball to the single keyboard/mouse connector, purchase a Y-adapter.
