Important notes
Table 5
provides information you should know prior to upgrading to Fabric OS 6.1.0d.
Table 5 Important release information
Topic
Description
PID Format
Beginning with Fabric OS version 6.x, the only supported PID format is
core pid (1)
. See the
HP StorageWorks Fabric OS 6.1.x administrator guide
for details.
Licensing behavior
When upgrading a 4/256 SAN Director with an FCIP license installed, the
licenseshow
output may falsely indicate that Integrated Routing is available.
HP StorageWorks
B-Series MP Router Blade
(FR4-18i)
The FR4-18i ships with Fabric OS 6.x. If inserted into a chassis running a version
of
rmware that is different than the revision level currently on the blade, the
blade
rmware will be upgraded or downgraded to match the
rmware revision
on the chassis.
FICON support
The FC4-48 and FC8-48 port blades are not supported to connect to System z
environments via FICON channels or via FCP zLinux on System z. To attach the
4/256 Director or DC Director to the System z environment, use an FC4-16,
FC4-32, FC8-16, or FC8-32 port blade.
Adaptive Networking/
Flow-based QoS
Prioritization
When using Quality of Service (QoS) in a fabric with 4Gb ports or switches,
Fabric OS 6.x or later must be installed on all products in order to pass QoS
information. E_Ports from the DC Director to other switches must come up
after 6.0 is running on those switches.
Flow based QoS is NOT supported on 8Gb blades in the 4/256 SAN Director
Any products that are not capable of operating with Fabric OS 6.0 may NOT
exist in a fabric with Flow based QoS. Major problems will occur if previous
generation 2Gb products exist in the fabric.
FCR Backbone Fabric ID
change
With 8Gb Director blades, the switch must be disabled to change the
backbone fabric ID
With routing and dual backbone fabrics, the backbone fabric ID must be
changed to keep the IDs unique.
Integrated Routing
Ports 16-47 on the FC8-48 blade may not be used as Ex_Ports. Only ports 0-15
should be used for FCR on the 48-port blade.
FCS Automatic
Distribution
When using the FCS Automatic Distribution feature in Fabric OS 6.0 or later,
all switches in the fabric must be running Fabric OS 6.0 or later. If any switches
are running Fabric OS 5.x or earlier, only manual distribution can be used.
Fabric OS 6.0 or later will only allow FCS automatic distribution when in strict
mode, requiring only switches with Fabric OS 6.0 or later.
Access Gateway
Ports 16-47 on the FC8-48 blade may not be used for AG F_Port Trunking
connections.
Traf
c Isolation over FCR
All switches and Fibre Channel Routers both in edge and backbone fabrics
must be running Fabric OS 6.1.0 in order to support this feature.
It is essential to have “fail-over” policy enabled in all edge fabrics that are
part of the traf
c isolation zones, in order for the proper functioning of Traf
c
Isolation over FCR.
FICON CUP Cascading
All switches must operate with Fabric OS 6.1.x or later to support this feature.
