Your IS-SP3WAY 3-Way Indoor/Outdoor Multipurpose Speakers represent the state of the art in speaker design, and are designed for reliable and trouble-free performance. Warnings Amplification Almost any speaker can be used successfully with almost any amplifier. Conversely, almost any speaker can be damaged by almost any amplifier regardless of either unit's power rating. The power recommendations that we publish for our speakers are based on several assumptions about the amplifier, the type of music, and the conditions of use. Most importantly, we assume that the volume is never set above the point of audible distortion. Distortion is an indication that either the amplifier or the speaker is operating outside of its normal design limits. Speaker damage is likely within a short period of time if distortion is heard. If you hear distortion, immediately turn the volume down. Failure to do so may result in damage that is not covered by the warranty. Our speakers are designed to reproduce music and speech in a home environment. They are not designed for use in sound reinforcement systems or for reproducing sound effects or test tones at other than moderate levels in a home setting. When used within their limits, our speakers should provide many years of trouble-free performance. Setting up your speakers Connecting your speakers We recommend using 18-gauge or heavier wire to obtain the maximum performance from your speakers. When connecting your speakers, be careful to connect the red speaker terminal to the red or + terminal on your amplifier. The black speaker terminal should be connected to the black or - terminal on the amplifier. Two-conductor wire is labeled to simplify proper connection. One side of the wire is identified by a raised ridge or a different color conductor. Use this marked side for red/+. To verify connections: 1 Switch your amplifier to MONO and place your speakers close to each other. 2 Adjust the balance control so that only one speaker is playing. 3 Listen to the bass level and adjust the balance control so that both speakers are playing. If the bass decreases when both speakers are playing, one of the speakers is connected incorrectly. Positioning your speakers The performance of your new Insignia Surround Speakers, as with any high-quality system, is influenced by their placement in your listening room. Consider these guidelines as you select the speaker positions: • The speakers' bass performance is affected by their placement in your listening room. More bass is generated the closer the speakers are to as many corners (walls, floor, ceiling) as possible. Conversely, less bass is produced the further the speakers are from the room surfaces. Your speakers are designed to be the most in balance when they are placed along the same wall and are within 2 feet (60 cm) of another surface. Remember that you can "tune" the bass in your listening room by shifting the speakers towards (more and deeper bass) and away from (less and crisper bass) the areas where room surfaces meet. • Place the speakers so that they face your listening area. Ideally, the grill fronts should be "aimed" towards ear level. • The speakers are designed to produce a "stage-like" sound. Take full advantage of this feature by placing the speakers about half the distance from your ear to the speakers apart. For example, if you are about 10 feet (3 m) from the speakers when listening, then the left and right speakers should be about 5 feet (1.5 m) apart. Maintaining your speakers Maintain the finish of your speakers by using a surface protectant such as Armor All. The grills may be vacuumed, gently tapped, or brushed to remove dust and debris. Warnings
Amplification
Almost any speaker can be used successfully
with almost any amplifier. Conversely, almost
any speaker can be damaged by almost any
amplifier regardless of either unit’s power rating.
The power recommendations that we publish for
our speakers are based on several assumptions
about the amplifier, the type of music, and the
conditions of use.
Most importantly, we assume that the volume is
never set above the point of audible distortion.
Distortion is an indication that either the amplifier
or the speaker is operating outside of its normal
design limits. Speaker damage is likely within a
short period of time if distortion is heard. If you
hear distortion, immediately turn the volume
down. Failure to do so may result in damage that
is not covered by the warranty.

systems or for reproducing sound effects or test

setting. When used within their limits, our

Setting up your speakers
Connecting your speakers
We recommend using 18-gauge or heavier wire
to obtain the maximum performance from your
speakers. When connecting your speakers, be
careful to connect the red speaker terminal to
the red or
+
terminal on your amplifier.
The black speaker terminal should be connected
to the black or
terminal on the amplifier.
Two-conductor wire is labeled to simplify proper
connection. One side of the wire is identified by
a raised ridge or a different color conductor. Use
this marked side for red/

To verify connections:
1
Switch your amplifier to MONO and place
your speakers close to each other.
2
Adjust the balance control so that only one
speaker is playing.
3
Listen to the bass level and adjust the
balance control so that both speakers are
playing. If the bass decreases when both
speakers are playing, one of the speakers is
connected incorrectly.
Positioning your speakers
The performance of your new Insignia Surround
Speakers, as with any high-quality system, is
influenced by their placement in your listening
room.
