Installing and Replacing Desktop Board Components Removing the PCI Express Card Follow these instructions to remove the PCI Express x16 card from the RM: 1. Observe the precautions in "Before You Begin" on page 23. 2. Remove the screw (see Figure 15, A) that secures the card's metal bracket to the chassis back panel. 3. Push back on the RM lever (see Figure 15, B) until the retention pin completely clears the notch in the card. 4. Pull the card straight up (see Figure 15, C). A C B OM16842 Figure 15. Removing the PCI Express x16 Card Connecting the IDE Cable The IDE cable can connect two drives to the desktop board. The cable supports the ATA-66/100 transfer protocol. Figure 16 shows the correct installation of the cable. NOTE ATA-66/100 compatible cables are backward compatible with drives using slower IDE transfer protocols. If an ATA-66/100 disk drive and a disk drive using any other IDE transfer protocol are attached to the same cable, the maximum transfer rate between the drives may be reduced to that of the slowest drive. 35

Connecting the IDE Cable
The IDE cable can connect two drives to the desktop board.
The cable supports the ATA-66/100
transfer protocol.
Figure 16 shows the correct installation of the cable.
NOTE
ATA-66/100 compatible cables are backward compatible with drives using slower IDE transfer
protocols.
If an ATA-66/100 disk drive and a disk drive using any other IDE transfer protocol are
attached to the same cable, the maximum transfer rate between the drives may be reduced to that of
the slowest drive.
