Using the Client Software Error messages 2 Update failed. There are several reasons that updates might fail. • Check your connection to the network server or Internet. • When using the Windows fast user switching feature, automatic updates cannot occur when no user is logged on if the computer is a domain controller or local security policies prevent the creation of a pseudo user. • Automatic updates cannot occur on computers that are behind an authenticating proxy server or on computers where a CHAP or NTML proxy is set up in Internet Explorer. • Automatic updates cannot occur where no user is logged on to computers that receive updates through a relay server. • Updates might fail if the Temp folder does not exist on the client computer. If you delete the folder inadvertently, restart the computer to re-create the folder automatically, or manually create a Temp folder in the Program Files\McAfee\Managed VirusScan folder.
