Using Smart Portrait Mode Smile timer • On (default setting): Among the detected faces, if a smile is detected in the face that is framed by a double border, the camera automatically releases the shutter. • Off: The camera does not release the shutter automatically using smile timer; the shutter is only released when the shutter-release button is pressed. • When smile timer is enabled, the current setting is displayed during shooting (A 6). When Off is selected, an icon for the current setting is not displayed. If the desired effect is not achieved, set Skin softening to Off and shoot again. • The amount of skin softening effect that is applied cannot be set while using the portrait or night portrait scene modes. • Skin softening can also be applied to pictures after they have been taken (A 73). 53

Notes on Skin Softening
When taking pictures with skin softening, the time required to save the pictures increases slightly.
Depending on shooting conditions, even if the camera detects a face on the monitor at the time
of shooting, effects of the skin softening function may not be visible, and areas other than the face
may be processed. If the desired effect is not achieved, set
Skin softening
to
Off
and shoot again.
The amount of skin softening effect that is applied cannot be set while using the portrait or night
portrait scene modes.
Skin softening can also be applied to pictures after they have been taken (
A
73).
