Editing Pictures Use the COOLPIX S640 to edit pictures in-camera and store them as separate files (A 139). Editing function Quick retouch (A 71) D-Lighting (A 72) Skin softening (A 73) Small picture (A 74) Crop (A 75) Description Easily create a copy with enhanced contrast and richer colors. Create a copy of the current picture with enhanced brightness and contrast, brightening dark portions of the picture. Makes the subject's skin appear smoother. Create a small copy of pictures suitable for use on web pages or as e-mail attachments. Crop picture. Enlarge the image or refine the composition and create a copy containing only the portion visible in the monitor. More on Playback/In-Camera Editing C Notes on In-camera Editing • Pictures taken at an Image mode (A 96) setting of P 16:9 (3968) cannot be edited. • The COOLPIX S640 cannot be used to edit images shot using cameras other than the COOLPIX S640. • If no faces can be detected in the image, the image cannot be edited with skin softening (A 73). • If a copy created using the COOLPIX S640 is viewed on a camera other than the COOLPIX S640, the picture may not be displayed or may not be transferred to a computer. • Editing functions are not available when there is not enough free space in the internal memory or on the memory card. C Restrictions on Picture Editing The following limitations apply when editing pictures that were created by editing. Copies Created By: Quick retouch D-Lighting Skin softening Small picture Crop Can Be Edited By: Skin softening, small picture, or crop can be used. Quick retouch and D-Lighting cannot be used together. Quick retouch, D-Lighting, small picture, or crop can be used. No additional editing functions can be used. • Copies created by editing cannot be edited again using the same edit function. • To use an editing function together with small picture or crop, use the other edit function first, and use small picture or crop as the last edit function performed on that picture. • Pictures that were taken using skin softening can be edited using skin softening. 69
