The Built-in Flash The built-in flash can be used with lenses with focal lengths of 16-300 mm, although in some cases the flash may be unable to entirely light the subject at some ranges or focal lengths due to shadows cast by the lens. • Peripheral illumination may drop at focal lengths under 16 mm. • The NIKKOR Z 14-30mm f/4 S casts shadows in photos taken with the built-in flash at all focal lengths. A More on the Built-in Flash • The built-in flash has a minimum range of about 0.6 m (2 ft). • Remove lens hoods to prevent shadows.
