4. Maintenance 4-1 Replacing the blades The upper blade and lower blade are made of a specially long-lasting steel and will seldom have to be replaced. However, when they do not cut the fabric, even though they are set in the right position, replace them as follow: Unplug the machine. Open the front cover. Lower blade clamp screw Align Needle plate Lower blade Replacing the lower blade: 1. Turn the moveable blade to the nonoperating position (see figure C, p. 10). 2. Loosen the lower blade clamp screw and remove the lower blade. 3. Place a new lower blade in the groove of the blade holder, align the cutting edge level with the top surface of the needle plate and tighten the clamp screw. 4. Return the moveable blade to its original position. Upper blade 1-1.5 Needle plate 0.5-1 Lower blade Lowest position Replacing the upper blade: 1. Set the upper blade to its lowest position by turning the handwheel towards you. 2. Loosen the upper blade screw. 3. Place a new moveable blade in the groove of the moveable blade holder. 4. Make sure that the cutting position of the upper blade is positioned downwards 0.5 to 1.0 mm from the top of the cutting position of the lower blade. 25

Replacing the lower blade:
1. Turn the moveable blade to the non-
operating position (see figure C, p. 10).
2. Loosen the lower blade clamp screw and
remove the lower blade.
3. Place a new lower blade in the groove of
the blade holder, align the cutting edge level
with the top surface of the needle plate and
tighten the clamp screw.
4. Return the moveable blade to its original
position.

1. Set the upper blade to its lowest position by
turning the handwheel towards you.
2. Loosen the upper blade screw.
3. Place a new moveable blade in the groove
of the moveable blade holder.
4. Make sure that the cutting position of the
upper blade is positioned downwards 0.5 to
1.0 mm from the top of the cutting position
of the lower blade.
