To obtain a neat and even gather you should sew two or three gathering seams. - Mark the first line on the face side of the fabric and stitch along it. Leave about four or five inches of thread protruding at the end. You can now stitch the other seams at sewing foot width using the first one as a guide. Now gather the part by pulling the bottom threads. You determine the amount of gather yourself - Finally, knot the thread ends together to secure the gather. 49
