Chapter 6. Verifying prerequisites Before installing InfoPrint Manager for the Windows, you should verify that you have satisfied the hardware and software requirements in this chapter. Verifying hardware prerequisites Server hardware prerequisites The recommended minimum configuration for the InfoPrint Manager server is: v 2-way 2.4GHz system v 2GB RAM v Three hard disks with 96GB total capacity v Graphics display Note: InfoPrint Manager can be installed and run on a smaller or slower system, though performance will be impacted. InfoPrint Manager for Windows will run on common PC systems from various manufacturers. To use a channel-attached printer, you must install the IBM 4159 Model 001 S/390 Parallel Channel Emulator Card. You should be advised of these facts: v Each IBM 4159 supports at most 8 printers. However, if you are using the card to attach high-speed printers (such as an InfoPrint 4000 or an InfoPrint 4100), you should use one card per printer. v You should plan to install the IBM 4159 in a long PCI slot. As a result, the number of long PCI slots you have available in your InfoPrint Windows systems determines how many IBM 4159 cards you can install, up to a maximum of 8 cards. Many computers have fewer than 8 long PCI slots. v The IBM 4159 supports data streaming at either 3.0 Mb per second or 4.5 Mb per second. All printers connected to a computer must be configured for the same data streaming rate. v The IBM 4159 supports only block multiplex data transfers. Contact your InfoPrint customer service representative to obtain the IBM 4159 Model 001 S/390 Parallel Channel Emulator Card. To use TCP/IP-attached printers or to communicate with other systems across a LAN, you must install a suitable token-ring, ethernet, or Fiber Distributed Data Interface (FDDI) adapter card and connect the appropriate cabling. Acceptable network hardware is available from IBM and other vendors. Client hardware prerequisites We recommend these minimum Windows configuration for all InfoPrint clients: v 800 MHz Pentium® III processor v 256 MB RAM or more v CD-ROM drive © Copyright InfoPrint Solutions Company 2000, 2009 33
