Quick Reference Glossary x 12cm disc A disc with a diameter of 12cm. You cannot use 12cm discs with your camcorder. x 5.1ch surround sound A system that plays back sound on 6 speakers, 3 at the front (left, right and center) and 2 at the rear (right and left) with an additional low-pass subwoofer counted as a 0.1 channel for frequencies of 120 Hz or lower. x 8cm disc A disc with a diameter of 8cm. You can use 8cm discs with your camcorder. x AVCHD format A high definition digital video camera format used to record an HD (high definition) signal using the MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format. x Disc menu A menu screen that enables you to select a particular scene from a disc being played back on another device. In case of the SD (standard definition) image quality, a DVD menu is displayed. x Disc title The title (name) given to a recorded disc. x Dolby Digital An audio encoding (compression) system developed by Dolby Laboratories Inc. x Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator Sound compression technology developed by Dolby Laboratories Inc. which compresses audio efficiently while preserving high sound quality. It enables recording of 5.1ch surround sound while using disc space more efficiently. Discs created by Dolby Digital 5.1 Creator can be played back on a device compatible with the disc created on your camcorder. x Double-sided disc Disc that can be recorded on both sides. 150 x DVD format A format used to record an SD (standard definition) signal on 8cm DVD discs. x DVD-R A disc that does not enable re-recording. It is mostly used for saving data that does not need to be edited. Once the disc is finalized, you cannot record onto it even if it has some free space left. x DVD+R DL A disc that does not enable re-recording. DL stands for Double Layer. There are 2 recording layers on one side of a disc that enables a long recording time on a disc. Unlikely to a double-sided disc, you do not need to turn over DVD+R DL. x DVD-RW A re-recordable disc. If the disc is recorded with HD (high definition) image quality, various editing functions are possible on your camcorder after recording. If the case of SD (standard definition) image quality, you must choose a recording mode: VIDEO mode or VR mode. In the case of VR mode, various editing functions are possible on your camcorder. x DVD+RW A re-recordable disc.
