HOW TO OPERATE 81 engine. Refer to the "Shifting the Differential" section in this chapter. If it the above method is not successful, you can use a winch installed at the front of the vehicle (Winch is an optional part.) or seek help from another vehicle for towing. • Catalytic Converter This vehicle is equipped with a catalytic converter in the exhaust system. The converter reacts with carbon monoxide, hydrocarbons and nitrogen oxides to convert them into carbon dioxide, water, nitrogen and oxygen resulting in much cleaner exhaust gases to be discharged into the atmosphere. For proper operation of the catalytic converter, the following cautions must be observed. j When escaped from the stuck condition, the drive belt protection system stops its activation and the indicator light stops flashing. NOTE żThe indicator light keeps flashing 5 seconds after WARNING Operating or parking the vehicle near flammable materials can cause a fire, and can result in property damage or severe personal injury. Do not idle or park your vehicle in an area where tall or dry vegetation, or other flammable materials could come into contact with the muffler or exhaust pipe. the vehicle is released from the stuck condition. Make sure that the indicator light stops flashing before starting to drive the vehicle. żThis protection system is also activated if the vehicle speed sensor cables are disconnected or grounded. If the engine speed suddenly decreases and the indicator light starts flashing when the vehicle is not under harsh condition, take your vehicle to an authorized Kawasaki dealer to check the speed sensor and its components. WARNING The engine and exhaust system get extremely hot during normal operation and can cause serious burns. Never touch a hot engine, exhaust pipe, or muffler during operation or after stopping the engine.
