Practical hints Replacing bulbs Replacing bulbs for front lamps Before you start to replace a bulb for a front lamp, do the following first: X Switch off the ignition. X X Turn the exterior lamp switch to position M. Open the hood (Y page 223). G Warning! Do not remove the cover for the Bi-Xenon headlamp. Because of high voltage in Xenon lamps, it is dangerous to replace the bulb or repair the lamp and its components. We recommend that you have such work done by a qualified technician. Low-beam bulb (halogen headlamps only) X X X Press the new bulb gently into bulb socket 5. Place bulb socket 5 back into the housing and turn it clockwise. Align housing cover 1 and turn it clockwise until it engages. High-beam and high-beam flasher bulb (halogen headlamps)/high-beam flasher bulb (Bi-Xenon headlamps) X X X X Turn bulb socket 3 with the bulb counterclockwise and remove it. Pull the bulb out of bulb socket 3. Press the new bulb gently into bulb socket 3. Place bulb socket 3 back into the housing and turn it clockwise until it engages. 1 Housing cover for low beam (halogen headlamps only) Housing cover for Bi-Xenon headlamps. Do not remove! 2 Bulb socket for turn signal lamp 3 Bulb socket for high beam/high-beam flasher lamp 4 Bulb socket for parking and standing lamp 5 Bulb socket for low-beam headlamp X X X Front turn signal lamp bulb X X Turn housing cover 1 counterclockwise and remove it. Turn bulb socket 5 with the bulb counterclockwise and remove it. Pull the bulb out of bulb socket 5. Turn bulb socket 2 with the bulb counterclockwise and remove it. Press gently onto the bulb and turn it counterclockwise out of bulb socket 2. 314
