Using Cruise Control on Hills How well your cruise control will work on hills depends upon your speed, load and the steepness of the hills. When going up steep hills, you may want to step on the accelerator pedal to maintain your speed. When going downhill, you may have to brake or shift to a lower gear to keep your speed down. Of course, applying the brake takes you out of cruise control. Many drivers find this to be too much trouble and do not use cruise control on steep hills. Erasing Speed Memory When you turn off the cruise control or the ignition, your cruise control set speed memory is erased. Headlamps The exterior lamp control is located in the middle of the turn signal/multifunction lever. See Turn Signal/Multifunction Lever on page 3-7. Ending Cruise Control To turn off the cruise control, do one of the following: O(Exterior Lamp Control): Turn the control with this symbol on it to operate the exterior lamps. The exterior lamp control has the following four positions: Step lightly on the brake pedal, move the cruise control switch to off, or shift the transmission to NEUTRAL (N). If your vehicle has the StabiliTrak® feature, cruise control will turn off if road conditions cause StabiliTrak® to activate. 60 seconds, cruise control will turn off. O (On/Off): Turn the control to this position to turn off the Daytime Running Lamps (DRL) and Automatic Headlamps. Turning the control to this position again turns the automatic lighting system back on. This feature is not available for vehicles first sold in Canada. AUTO (Automatic): Turn the control to this position to put the headlamps in automatic mode.
