Periodic maintenance and adjustment Checking the drive track EWS00490 WARNING Do not operate the snowmobile if you find damage to the drive track, or if it has been maladjusted. Drive track damage or failure could result in loss of braking ability and snowmobile control, which could cause an accident. If excessive free play is felt, consult a Yamaha dealer. ESU12176 Drive track and slide runners Drive track EWS00481 Check the drive track alignment and deflection, and check the track for wear and damage. Adjust or replace if necessary. (See the following section for more details.) WARNING A broken track, track fittings or debris thrown by the drive track could be dangerous to an operator or bystanders. Observe the following precautions: G Do not allow anyone to stand behind the snowmobile when the engine is running. G When the rear of the snowmobile is raised to allow the drive track to spin, a suitable stand must be used to support the rear of the snowmobile. Never allow anyone to hold the rear of the snowmobile off the ground to allow the drive track to spin. Never allow anyone near a rotating drive track. G Inspect the drive track condition frequently. Replace any damaged slide metal. Replace the drive track if it is damaged to the depth where fabric reinforcement material is visible or support rods are broken. Otherwise, track damage or failure could result in loss of braking ability and snowmobile control, which could cause an accident. Checking the drive track alignment 1. Lift the rear of the snowmobile onto a suitable stand to raise the drive track off the ground. 2. Start the engine and rotate the drive track one or two turns. Stop the engine. 3. Check the drive track alignment with the slide runners. If the alignment is incorrect, adjust the drive track. 71
