Chapter 3: About Your RAID Controller ● 17 ● Dual Drive Failure Protection (RAID 601)-A RAID 60 array is similar to a RAID 50 array except that it includes four independent sets of parity data instead of two. Adding Enhanced Features As your storage needs change, you can enhance data protection and improve performance by upgrading your Adaptec controller with extra features. Currently, Adaptec offers the snapshot function as an upgrade feature which can be activated with a feature key (sold separately). A snapshot is a frozen image of a logical drive at a particular point in time. You can use this feature to back up your data to tape, clone a disk drive, or copy the data to multiple servers. Note: Snapshots are supported by Windows and Linux operating systems only. To purchase a feature key, contact your Adaptec Reseller or refer to the Adaptec Web site at www.adaptec.com. To unlock the enhanced features with a feature key, see the following section. Using a Feature Key to Unlock Enhanced Features When you receive a feature key, use Adaptec Storage Manager to unlock the new features. For step-by-step instructions, follow the instructions in the online Help or the Adaptec Storage Manager User's Guide for Internal RAID Storage on the Adaptec Storage Manager Installation CD.
