Superior audio performance for both music and movies places this system at the heart of home  theater enjoyment. Instructions in this guide apply to the Bose LIFESTYLE® 18, 28, and 35 Series II systems and to the LIFESTYLE® 38 and 48 systems. While suited to slightly different home entertainment needs, each of these advanced systems includes connection jacks to extend its capabilities in up to 14 other rooms. All five systems also feature the proprietary ADAPTiQ® audio calibration system, for tailoring system performance to make it optimal for your home. In addition, LIFESTYLE® 38 and 48 systems feature an exciting and responsive uMusicTM  intelligent playback system, which plays stored music to suit your changing taste and moods. Use this guide as needed You may want to rely on this guide as a step-by-step instructional aid or simply as a  reference if you get stuck. Suggestions on how you can proceed follow. For a step-by-step approach • Begin by identifying the parts of your system, using the illustrations on the next two pages. • Consider the guidelines on placement to determine the best locations for your media  center, cube speakers, and Acoustimass® module. These begin on page 8. • Using the supplied cables, follow the basic procedures and diagrams as you connect all the system parts, including the AM and FM antennas and power cords, beginning on page 12. For reference only, as needed • Confirm that the basic connection between your LIFESTYLE® system and your television allows you to see on-screen system menus. Note: Basic setup is required for you to use the supplied Setup Disc 1 and to run the ADAPTiQ calibration process to adjust the sound so it suits your room layout and furnishings. • Scan our recommended approach on page 20 to power up the system and test for optimal sound in your room. • Check the detailed overview of how to connect other equipment to extend the versatility of the system in "Connecting other components to the system" on page 29.
