Alkaline Battery Life The actual life of alkaline batteries is affected by a variety of factors, including the battery manufacturer, the amount of time the batteries spend in storage before you use them, temperature while you are recording, and photographic conditions. As a rule, we recommend the use of rechargeable Ni-MH batteries, which have longer lives than alkaline batteries. • When using alkaline batteries, use of the camera in cold temperatures can shorten the life of the batteries. • The PLAY mode requires less power than the REC mode. If you experience a problem turning on the camera in a REC mode, try switching to the PLAY mode. . Refreshing Rechargeable Batteries Batteries can start to lose their ability to retain a charge if you do not use them for a long time or when you charge them repeatedly without allowing their current charge to be used up completely. If this happens, you may be able to restore battery capacity by performing the following "battery refresh" operation to fully discharge the batteries. 1. Load the chargeable batteries into the camera. 2. While holding down [MENU], press the power button. This should cause the firmware version screen to flash on the monitor screen. 3. Leave the camera on until the batteries run out of power and the camera turns off. • The battery refresh operation can take as long as 10 hours. The actual amount of time required depends on battery conditions. 4. After the camera turns off, remove the batteries and charge them. 169 Appendix

Alkaline Battery Life
