APPENDIX C Provisioning the ISDN BRI Line If your router has not been preconfigured, usually you can configure your router by filling out the forms provided in the Cisco 700 Quick Reference Guide and following the instructions in the Cisco Fast Step Setup application. The Cisco Fast Step Setup application takes advantage of the Cisco 700 series router's ability to detect the switch type and SPID information. However, there might be cases where you need detailed information to complete the configuration. This appendix provides detailed information to help you order and configure the Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN) Basic Rate Interface (BRI) line to operate with your Cisco 700 series router. Both the ISDN line configuration and the router configuration are dependent on the switch type used. Switches that comply with the NI1 standard provide the best performance with Cisco 700 series routers. Data and Voice The Cisco 765, Cisco 766, Cisco 775, and Cisco 776 routers support data and voice applications. The voice applications on these four router models are implemented with ISDN BRI and through the analog telephone port on the router. Note When ordering an ISDN line to support multiple voice calls, provision the line for call appearances 1 and 2. Provisioning the ISDN BRI Line C-1

APPENDIX
C
Provisioning the ISDN BRI Line
If your router has not been preconfigured, usually you can configure your router by filling
out the forms provided in the
Cisco 700 Quick Reference Guide
and following the
instructions in the Cisco Fast Step Setup application. The Cisco Fast Step Setup application
takes advantage of the Cisco 700 series router’s ability to detect the switch type and SPID
information. However, there might be cases where you need detailed information to
complete the configuration.
This appendix provides detailed information to help you order and configure the Integrated
Service Digital Network (ISDN) Basic Rate Interface (BRI) line to operate with your
Cisco 700 series router.
Both the ISDN line configuration and the router configuration are dependent on the switch
type used. Switches that comply with the NI1 standard provide the best performance with
Cisco 700 series routers.
Data and Voice
The Cisco 765, Cisco 766, Cisco 775, and Cisco 776 routers support data and voice
applications. The voice applications on these four router models are implemented with
ISDN BRI and through the analog telephone port on the router.
Note
When ordering an ISDN line to support multiple voice calls, provision the line for
call appearances 1 and 2.
