29 WX NW ST manual 3.3 6/15/99 2:53 PM Page 18 Operation Dimmer Switch Dimmer Switch Operation Gate open Note The Dimmer controls the brightness of the front panel, signal strength meter and channel display. 2 Full counterclockwise rotation opens the "gate" allowing all signals in. Setting Squelch Gate closed 1 Rotate the Dimmer knob clockwise for maximum brightness;counter-clockwise for minimum Setting Squelch Squelch is the "control gate" for incoming signals. Gate set to Desired Squelch Setting (DSS) 3 To achieve the Desired Squelch Setting (DSS), turn the Squelch control counterclockwise until you hear noise. Now turn the control clockwise just until the noise stops. This is the DSS setting. 1 Full clockwise rotation closes the gate allowing only very strong signals to enter. 18 19
