Modem module (select models only) Description Modem module for use in all countries and regions except Australia and New Zealand Modem module for use only in Australia and New Zealand Modem module cable (includes RJ-11 connector) Spare part number 461749-001 461749-011 494981-001 Before removing the modem module, follow these steps: 1. Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the computer on, and then shut it down through the operating system. 2. Disconnect all external devices connected to the computer. 3. Disconnect the power from the computer by first unplugging the power cord from the AC outlet and then unplugging the AC adapter from the computer. 4. Remove the battery (see Battery on page 34). 5. Remove the following components: a. Hard drive (see Hard drive on page 36) b. Optical drive (see Optical drive on page 35) c. Keyboard (see Keyboard on page 44) d. Keyboard cover (see Keyboard cover on page 46) e. Speaker assembly (see Speaker assembly on page 49) f. Display assembly (see Display assembly on page 51) g. Top cover (see Top cover on page 59) Remove the modem module: 1. Turn the computer display-side up, with the front toward you. 2. Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×4.0 screws (1) that secure the modem module to the system board. 3. Before removing the modem module, follow these steps:
1.
Shut down the computer. If you are unsure whether the computer is off or in Hibernation, turn the

Remove the modem module:
1.
Turn the computer display-side up, with the front toward you.
2.
Remove the two Phillips PM2.0×4.0 screws

that secure the modem module to the system board.
3.
Disconnect the modem module cable

from the modem module.
