3-6 Compaq Parallel Database Cluster Model PDC/O1000 for Oracle8i and Windows 2000 Administrator Guide Oracle8i Server Oracle8i Server is the database application software and must be installed on each node in the PDC/O1000. Refer to the documentation provided with the Oracle8i Server software for additional information. Oracle8i Parallel Server Option Oracle8i Parallel Server Option is the key component in the Oracle8i clustering architecture. Oracle8i Parallel Server allows the database server to divide its workload among the physical cluster nodes. This is accomplished by running a distinct instance of Oracle8i Server on each node in the PDC/O1000. Oracle8i Parallel Server manages the interaction between these instances. Through its Integrated Distributed Lock Manager, Oracle8i Parallel Server manages the ownership of database records that are requested by multiple instances. At a lower level, Oracle8i Parallel Server monitors cluster membership. It interacts with the OSDs, exchanging information about the state of each cluster node. For additional information, refer to: I Oracle8i Parallel Server Setup and Configuration Guide I Other Oracle documentation for Oracle8i Server and Oracle8i Parallel Server provided with the Oracle software Oracle8i Enterprise Manager Oracle8i Enterprise Manager is responsible for monitoring the state of both the database entities and the cluster members. It primarily manages the software components of the cluster. Hardware components are managed with Compaq Insight Manager. To conserve space for cluster resources (memory, processes), you should not install Oracle8i Enterprise Manager on any of the PDC/O1000 cluster nodes. Instead, it should be installed on a separate server that is running Oracle8i and has network access to the cluster nodes. Before installing Oracle8i Enterprise Manager, read its documentation to ensure it is installed and configured correctly for an Oracle8i Parallel Server environment.
