DGS-3100 Series Gigabit Stackable Managed Switch User Manual Managing System Logs System Logs record and manage events and report errors and informational messages. Event messages have a unique format, as per the Syslog protocols recommended message format for all error reporting. For example, Syslog and local device reporting messages are assigned a severity code, and include a message mnemonic, which identifies the source application generating the message. Messages are filtered based on their urgency or relevancy. Each message severity determines the set of event logging devices that are sent per each event message. 1. Click Configuration > System Log Host. The System Log Host Page opens: Figure 0-9. System Log Host Page The System Log Host Page contains the following fields: Field Description Index Defines syslog host index, 1 out of 4 Severity Defines the minimum severity from which warning logs are sent to the server. There are two levels. - warning (high) and informational (low): Warning -The device is functioning, but an operational problem has occurred. Informational - Provides device information through system logs. All - Sends system logs for all levels of system logs. Server IP Displays the IP address of the Log Server Host. Facility Defines an application from which system logs are sent to the remote server. Only one facility can be assigned to a single server. If a second facility level is assigned, the first facility is overridden. UDP Port(514 or 1-65535) Defines the UDP port to which the server logs are sent. The possible range is 1 - 65535. The default value is 514. 2. Define the Index, Severity, Server IP, Facility, and UDP Port fields. 3. Click . The System Log Host is defined, and the device is updated. 38
