OPERATING PROCEDURES Read all of this manual to become thoroughly familiar with this vehicle. Pay particular attention to all Notices, Cautions, Warnings, and Dangers. OPERATING THE VEHICLE Improper use of the vehicle or the lack of proper maintenance may result in damage or decreased performance. 1. Turn the Exceed generator ON and OFF as desired/needed. 2. To start the Exceed unit, press the top half of the Exceed unit switch as shown. 3. When unit starts, release and the switch will default to the middle posi- tion. 4. To optimize the vehicle range on a single tank of gas, start off with a full charge and then engage the Exceed generator after about 3 to 5 miles of driving and then leave it on continuously while driving to help maintain the battery state of charge. If you completely deplete the battery pack and then turn on the Exceed generator, you will need to allow the vehicle to sit or drive it very slowly until the batteries are partially recharged, otherwise the Exceed generator system will disengage, as signaled by the red light on the dashboard. This is to prevent discharging the batteries below a safe level, where significant permanent battery damage can happen. Cold Starting Starting a cold engine may require use of the choke. Use of choke may be needed for cold starts or if the Exceed unit does not start while pressing the Exceed switch. 1. Press the choke button as shown (not more than 10 seconds) and release when the Exceed unit starts. Starting and Driving If not planning to drive a long distance, then run in regular electric mode. If you know that you will be driving a distance that will exceed the normal range of the vehicle, then you should turn the Exceed generator on while driving. NOTICE When the Exceed generator disengages due to low battery state of charge, stop driving for at least 30 seconds for the unit to re-engage and begin charging again. Continue driving only when it has a chance to partially recharge the batteries. If you maintain a slow speed, you can drive almost entirely off of the generator, so you will not have to sit very long. Page 16 Owner's Guide
