Note: The printer beeps once if you press a control panel button when the corresponding function is not available. Problems and Solutions Most printer problems are easy to solve. Use the information in this section to find the source of and solution to any printer problems that occur. Determine the type of problem that occurred, and see the appropriate section below: Power supply problems 7-3 Paper loading or feeding problems 7-4 Wrong top-of-form position 7-7 Wrong tear-off position 7-8 Printing or printout quality problems 7-9 You can also use the self test to determine whether the printer or the computer is causing the problem. See page 7-15 for instructions on printing a self test. To pinpoint communication problems, experienced users may want to use the printer's hex dump mode, described on page 7-17. 7 To clear a paper jam, see page 7-13. Troubleshooting Power supply problems The control panel lights come on briefly, but then go off and stay off. Cause What to do The printer's voltage rating does not match the voltage of your electrical outlet. Check the printer and the outlet voltage ratings. If the voltages do not match, unplug the printer immediately and contact your dealer. Troubleshooting 7-3
