Cleaning The StreetPilot is constructed of high quality materials and does not require user maintenance other than cleaning. Clean the unit using a cloth dampened with a mild detergent solution and then wipe dry. Avoid chemical cleaners and solvents that may damage plastic components. Storage Storing alkaline batteries in the unit for extended periods is not recommended. In order to reduce the chance for battery leakage in the battery compartment and map data card slot, remove the batteries when storing the unit for more than six months. Water Immersion The StreetPilot is waterproof to IEC Standard 529 IPX7. It can withstand immersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. Prolonged submersion can cause damage to the unit. After submersion, be certain to remove the batteries and map cartridge and dry the compartments before reuse. Symptom Probable Cause Remedy Unit does not turn ON Batteries are exhausted. Replace batteries. "Poor GPS Coverage" message is constant. Unit will not power ON even with new batteries. Unit powers up, but then turns OFF. Your location does not allow a clear view of the sky. Batteries may be installed backwards. Unit has sustained damage from impact. Batteries may be nearly exhausted. Move to a new location. Reinstall batteries. Return unit to GARMIN for service. Replace batteries. The StreetPilot is programmed to provide "pop-up" messages concerning operational characteristics and conditions. Refer to Appendix E.
