102 Securing and Managing the Mobile Computer 5.1 Setting a BIOS Password System Setup (BIOS) enables you to change system settings such as the date and time or set boot device priority. You can set a supervisor password to prevent unauthorized access to your Mobile Computer's BIOS. When the Supervisor Password is set, users must enter the password to start the Mobile Computer or enter System Setup. By configuring a supervisor password, you can restrict system access to authorized users only and protect data and files saved on the computer. Note Do not lose or forget your password. Write it down and keep it in a safe place. To access System Setup Press the DEL key during the power-on self test (POST) to access the BIOS program. To set a supervisor password 1. Select the Security menu in the BIOS SETUP UTILITY screen. 2. Select Change Supervisor Password and press ENTER. 3. When prompted, type a password of up to six alphanumeric characters. 4. When prompted, enter the password again for confirmation and then press ENTER. 5. A message then appears to inform you that the password is installed. Press ENTER. 6. A Password Check item becomes available in the Security screen. Select this item and then press ENTER. 7. Choose when you want the system to prompt for the supervisor password: • Select Setup if you want the system to prompt for the password everytime you enter the BIOS System Setup. • Select Always if you want the system to prompt for the password everytime you boot the Mobile Computer or enter the BIOS System Setup. 8.
