Power cord protection The power cord should be routed in such a way that it is not likely to be walked on or pinched by items laying on or against it. Any power cord is susceptible to stress at the point where it joins the plug and the point where it exits from the back of the unit, so take care not to fold or bend it excessively at those points. Never pull or stretch the cord. The CD player's power cord should be unplugged from the outlet when the unit is left unused for a long period of time. Cleaning Use only a clean dry cloth to clean your compact disc player. Do not use solvents such as alcohol, benzine, gasoline, etc. Take care that excessive dust does not accumulate on your unit, and that objects are not dropped inside or liquids spilled into the unit. Water and moisture Do not operate this compact disc player around water (e.g., near a swimming pool, sink, or in a wet basement). Abnormal smells If you detect an abnormal smell or smoke, imme- diately turn the compact disc player off and pull out the power cord. Contact your dealer or nearest Harman Kardon service center. Service Your compact disc player should be serviced by authorized Harman Kardon service personnel when The plug or power cord has been damaged. • Objects have fallen into the unit. O Liquid has been spilled into the unit. • The unit has been exposed to rain. • The unit does not operate normally. ® The unit has been dropped or the cabinet has been damaged. Please do not attempt to service your compact disc player beyond the troubleshooting suggestions in this manual. All other service should be referred to authorized Harman Kardon service personnel. Packing material Your box and packing material are custom- designed to provide optimum protection for your compact disc player. Be sure to save the box and packing material in case you need to transport or ship the unit at some future time (e.g., service or moving). FOR CUSTOMERS IN CANADA The AC plug is a polarized plug, so the fol- lowing item should be taken into consideration. CAUTION: TO PREVENT ELECTRIC SHOCK, DO NOT USE THIS (POLARIZED) PLUG WITH AN EXTENSION CORD, RECEPTACLE OR OTHER OUTLET UNLESS THE BLADES CAN BE FULLY INSERTED TO PREVENT BLADE EXPOSURE. This digital apparatus does not exceed the Class B limits for radio noise emissions from digital apparatus as set out in the Radio Interference Regulations of the Canadian Department of Communications. FOR CUSTOMERS IN THE UK Your unit is supplied with the flex which will have either tow or three wires, so the following items should be observed to guarantee safety: THREE CORE FLEX WARNING: THIS APPARATUS MUST BE EARTHED. IMPORTANT. The wires in this mains lead are coloured in accordance with the following code: Green-and-yellow : Earth Blue : Neutral Brown : Live As the colours of the wires in the mains lead of this apparatus may not correspond with the coloured markings identifying the terminals in your plug, proceed as follows: The wire which is coloured green-and-yellow must be connected to the terminal in the plug which is marked by the letter E or by the safety earth symbol or coloured green or green-and- yellow. The wire which is coloured blue must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter N or coloured black. The wire which is coloured brown must be connected to the terminal which is marked with the letter L or coloured red. TWO CORE FLEX IMPORTANT.
