Appendix B: Questions and answers Q . Which operating systems are supported on the HP Compaq 2510p, 6910p 8510p/w and 8710p/w series notebooks? A . Windows XP Professional Edition, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise and Windows 2000 Professional are supported. Windows XP Professional x64 is supported on 8510w and 8710w. Q . Can I purchase Windows 2000 Professional preinstalled from HP? A . PC Customization Services can pre-configure supported models with Windows 2000, although additional costs will apply. For more information, go to http://h18000.www1.hp.com/solutions/pcsolutions/pccs.html. Q . How do I obtain updated software components? A . The latest software updates are available from the HP Web site at www.hp.com. Appendix C: 6510b and 6710b models Windows 2000 is not supported on the 6510b or 6710b models. The drivers and utilities released for the 6910p will install on these models. Basic testing has been performed by HP with this unsupported configuration and the following significant issues have been observed. Anomaly: Drivers are reported as unsigned during installation. Description: During installation of Synaptics touch pad, Intel video, Quick Launch Buttons, audio and modem drivers, a message reporting that these drivers are unsigned will appear. This is due to the lack of system IDs for the 6510b and 6710b in the driver files. Systems Affected: HP Compaq 6510b and 6710b Notebook PC models Operating Systems Affected: Windows 2000 Resolution: Bypass this message and continue installation. Anomaly: Hitting Fn-F4 after hot docking will cause a blue screen. Description: After docking with the system on, hitting Function-F4 to switch video output will generate a Windows blue screen. Systems Affected: HP Compaq 6510b and 6710b Notebook PC models Operating Systems Affected: Windows 2000 Resolution: Dock with the system off or in standby before attempting to use Fn-F4 to redirect video.
