Solving Keyboard and Numeric Keypad Problems Problem Probable Cause Solution Embedded numeric keypad on the computer keyboard is disabled. Num Lock function is not turned on. Press Fn+End/NumLk to enable the Num Lock function and embedded numeric keypad. External keyboard does not work. Keyboard may not be securely connected or may be connected to the wrong external connector. Ensure that the external keyboard is securely connected to the external keyboard connector. Keyboard and pointing You initiated device are locked. QuickLock. Enter your power-on password to exit QuickLock. NOTE: If Num Lock is on (the embedded numeric keypad is active), hold down the Fn key while typing to enter a nonnumeric password; pressing Fn temporarily toggles Num Lock off.
