Can't access Internet Service Provider. Can't receive a fax. Your DOS program/game doesn't find the modem. Most Likely Causes Line not connected. Conflict between PBX (Private Branch Exchange) and modem. Wrong dialing properties. Wrong user information. Inbox not open. Auto-answer option not enabled. DOS programs and games are not supported by your Windows modem. Recommended Action Check the cables. Connect a handset and check you have a standard dial tone. Install the modem directly to a phone line coming from the telephone operator. By doing this, you will also benefit from having the maximum speed. 1 Click Start, Settings, then single-click Control Panel. 2 Double-click the Modems icon. 3 Single-click Diagnostics Properties. 4 Enter the required options. Phone support can usually be obtained directly from your Internet Service Provider. Make sure your computer is set up to receive faxes. 1 Click Start, HP centers, Communication, then Enable/Disable Fax Reception. 2 Click Always Answer or Manual Answer .
