REBRANDING OF SAN-OS TO NX-OS Cisco MDS 9000 SAN-OS software is rebranded to Cisco MDS 9000 NX-OS software starting with release 4.1(1b). Software prior to NX-OS 4.1(1b) will continue using the name "SAN-OS" and remain on the 3.x code stream. NX-OS is designed to interoperate with switches running SAN-OS software. When mixing NX-OS, SAN-OS, and FabricWare in the same fabric, HP strongly recommends upgrading all fabric switches to the latest supported software version in order to maintain a consistent version throughout the SAN. All switches in the same major NX-OS/SANOS/FabricWare family must use the same software version. Two successive NX-OS/SANOS/FabricWare versions can be used in a fabric temporarily while upgrading switch software. Do not enable new switch features until the upgrade is complete. For new NX-OS features, switch limitations, and caveats, refer to the Cisco MDS 9000 Family Release Notes. Fabric Manager is not embedded in the NX-OS software. Fabric Manager is available from a CD-ROM that ships with the switch, or provided by HP in the NX-OS image bundle. Fabric Manager Update Installer is provided in the HP NX-OS image bungle. NX-OS IMAGES AND MANAGEMENT SOFTWARE UPDATES As of 1 April, 2010, switch NX-OS software image updates are no longer available for download on the hp.com website. Customers can receive updates electronically through the HP Support Center. This replaces the previous software update portal, HP Software Update Manager (SUM), which was available online within the HP IT Resource Center (ITRC). Go to the HP Support Center home page at http://www.hp.com/go/hpsc 2. If you do not have a current HP Passport account: o Click on the Register link at the top of the page. (Or, click on the Register link on the HP Support Center home page, under "My HP Support Center".) o Fill in all required fields and complete your profile to create an HP Passport account. (See Manage your HP Passport Profile for details) You will also be signed-in to HP Support Center automatically with your new user ID and password. If you are not automatically signed in, you may return to HP Support Center to sign-in as described below.
